Simulating the Production and Detection of Vector-Like Quarks

Friday 28 February 2025

Scientists have been searching for a way to detect and study single production of vector-like quarks, which are hypothetical particles that could help us better understand the universe. Recently, researchers have made significant progress in this area by using advanced computer simulations to analyze data from particle colliders.

One type of vector-like quark, called T, has an electric charge of +2/3e and is expected to be produced at a future muon-proton collider with energies of 5.29, 6.48, or 9.16 TeV. The other type, Y, has an electric charge of -4/3e and can only appear in doublet or triplet representations.

Researchers used computer simulations to analyze the production of these quarks at different energy levels and studied how they decay into other particles. They found that the T-quark decays primarily into W bosons and bottom quarks, while the Y-quark decays mainly into Z bosons and top quarks.

The team also analyzed the possibility of detecting these quarks using detectors at a future collider. They found that it would be possible to detect the quarks by looking for specific patterns in the energy released during their decay.

This research is significant because it could help us better understand the properties of vector-like quarks and how they interact with other particles. It also opens up new possibilities for studying these quarks at future colliders.

The study was conducted using advanced computer simulations, which allowed researchers to analyze large amounts of data quickly and efficiently. The simulations were validated by comparing them with experimental data from previous studies.

Overall, this research is an important step forward in our understanding of vector-like quarks and their potential role in the universe.
