Revolutionary Tracking Technology Unveils New Insights into Particle Physics

Scientists have made a significant breakthrough in the development of tracking technology, allowing for the creation of ultra-low material budget tracking systems that can track particles at incredibly high rates.


The new system combines two key technologies: the VMM3a Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) and the Scalable Readout System (SRS). The VMM3a is a highly advanced chip designed to read out data from particle detectors, while the SRS is a flexible system that can be used with various types of detectors.


The combination of these two technologies has enabled scientists to create a trigger-less tracking system. This means that particles are recorded as they pass through the detector, without the need for an external trigger signal. This allows for much faster and more efficient data collection, making it possible to track particles at rates previously thought impossible.


One of the most exciting applications of this new technology is in the field of particle physics. The ability to track particles at high rates will allow scientists to study the behavior of subatomic particles with unprecedented precision. This could lead to a deeper understanding of the fundamental laws of nature and potentially even reveal new forces or interactions that were previously unknown.


The system was tested using a muon beam, which is a stream of high-energy particles created by striking a target with a beam of protons from a particle accelerator.
