Protecting IoV Infrastructure from Cyber Attacks: A Quasi-Deterministic Transmission Policy

The internet of vehicles (IoV) has revolutionized transportation, enabling cars and other vehicles to communicate with each other and with infrastructure in real-time. But as IoV technology advances, so do concerns about its vulnerability to cyber attacks.


Recently, researchers have been exploring ways to protect IoV systems against denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which can overwhelm networks with a massive influx of traffic. In a new study, scientists have designed an innovative solution that uses a quasi-deterministic transmission policy (QDTP) to filter out malicious packets and prevent DDoS attacks from crippling IoV infrastructure.


The QDTP works by analyzing the traffic patterns of legitimate devices on the network and setting a threshold for when incoming packets are deemed suspicious. When an attack is detected, the system can quickly drop the malicious packets, preventing them from overwhelming the network.


The researchers tested their approach using simulations and found that it was highly effective in mitigating DDoS attacks. They also demonstrated how the QDTP could be integrated with existing IoV architectures to provide a robust defense against cyber threats.


One of the key benefits of this approach is its ability to adapt to changing traffic patterns. By continuously monitoring network activity, the QDTP can adjust its threshold for suspicious packets in real-time, making it more effective at detecting and blocking attacks.
