As scientists continue to unravel the mysteries of compact stars, a new study has shed light on the properties of strange quark stars (SQSs) using a vector MIT bag model that incorporates the effects of ρ and φ mesons.
The quest for understanding SQSs is driven by the possibility that these enigmatic objects could be the remnants of massive neutron stars that have undergone a phase transition to a strange quark matter state. The study’s authors employed a modified vector MIT bag model, which includes non-linear self-interactions between the vector mesons ρ and φ.
The researchers found that the inclusion of ρ and φ mesons significantly enhances both the mass and radius of SQSs compared to previous models that only considered the ω meson. This is because the ρ and φ mesons interact with the quarks in a way that stifferens the equation of state (EoS) of the strange quark matter.
The study’s findings also suggest that the tidal deformability parameter Λ, which is related to how much a star’s shape changes under gravitational stress, increases with the strength of the vector interactions. This has important implications for our understanding of compact stars and their role in astrophysical phenomena such as neutron star mergers.
One of the key benefits of this study is that it provides new insights into the properties of SQSs that are consistent with recent observations from gravitational wave events and X-ray observations of neutron stars. For example, the authors’ calculations of the mass-radius relation for SQSs align with constraints provided by NICER (Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer) and other experiments.
The study’s results also have implications for our understanding of the behavior of strange quark matter under extreme conditions. For instance, the researchers found that the gravitational redshift, which is a measure of how much light is shifted towards the red end of the spectrum as it escapes from a star’s surface, increases with the strength of the vector interactions.
The authors’ work builds on previous studies that have explored the properties of SQSs using various models and approaches. However, this study’s use of a modified vector MIT bag model provides new insights into the role of ρ and φ mesons in shaping the EoS and properties of SQSs.
As scientists continue to explore the mysteries of compact stars, studies like this one will play an important role in helping us better understand these enigmatic objects.
