The study analyzed two surveys of OSS contributors, comprising 70 mentors and 85 mentees. The study also highlights the importance of mentor qualities such as empathy, patience, and trustworthiness. Mentors who possess these qualities are better equipped to build strong relationships with their mentees, foster a sense of belonging, and promote a culture of inclusivity.
In terms of ideal outcomes, mentors should aim to help their mentees develop technical skills, become active contributors within the community, and build confidence in their abilities.
