The Natural Language Generation (NLG) community has long been aware of the potential risks and challenges associated with its research, but a recent survey suggests that many researchers may be overlooking some of the most pressing issues.

The survey also highlighted the need for greater transparency and accountability within the NLG community. Many respondents felt that researchers had a responsibility to consider the potential consequences of their work, particularly when it comes to issues like propaganda and disinformation.
In addition to addressing these ethical concerns, the survey emphasized the importance of ensuring that NLG technology is developed in a responsible and sustainable manner. This includes considering factors such as energy consumption, data privacy, and environmental impact.
The findings of this survey are likely to resonate with many researchers in the NLG community, who have long been aware of the potential risks and challenges associated with their work. However, they also serve as a reminder that it is not enough simply to acknowledge these issues – it is essential to take concrete steps to address them.
As the NLG community continues to evolve and grow, it will be crucial for researchers to prioritize ethics, transparency, and accountability. By doing so, they can help ensure that their work has a positive impact on society, while also minimizing the risk of harm or misuse.
