A team of researchers has made a significant breakthrough in the field of wireless communication, developing a new technology that can simultaneously enhance desired signals and cancel out jamming attacks.
The technology, known as intelligent omni-surfaces (IOS), uses a special type of surface that can reflect and refract electromagnetic waves to achieve its goal. This surface is composed of tiny elements that can be adjusted to change the phase of the reflected signal, allowing it to either amplify or cancel out signals depending on their direction.
The researchers tested their technology by simulating a wireless communication system with multiple users, each receiving a signal from a base station and potentially being jammed by an attacker. They found that the IOS surface was able to significantly improve the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for all users, even in the presence of jamming attacks.
The team also explored the impact of quantization bits on the performance of the IOS technology. They found that as the number of quantization bits increased, the SINR improved, but only up to a certain point. Beyond this point, further increases in quantization bits did not result in significant improvements.
One of the key advantages of the IOS technology is its ability to operate in real-time, making it suitable for practical applications such as secure communication networks. The researchers are now working on developing more advanced algorithms and hardware designs to improve the performance and scalability of their technology.
